Veggie Bites: Young Joni

Young Joni Broccolini Pizza

The best way to experience all the goodness that is Young Joni is to go with a group and order a bunch of dishes to share—that way you get to try a little bit of everything. We started our meal with a couple of shareable salads, including the vegetarian-friendly ‘Bibim Grain’ salad, which contained a hearty mix of farro, Brussels sprouts, zucchini, mushrooms, pickled vegetables and mixed seeds and was topped with a perfectly soft-cooked egg. Our waitress recommended that we slice into the egg and mix all of the ingredients together to get the maximum amount of flavor in each bite. We followed up with an order of pizzas, including one of my new favorites: the ‘Broccolini.’ It was loaded with dark green broccolini, fresh mozzarella and feta cheese, garlic, chilis and sliced almonds, which added the perfect amount of crunch. It was so good that I ended up eating half of the pizza by myself without realizing it! Next time, I think I’ll either try the ‘Margarita’ (you just can’t go wrong with a classic) or the ‘One Potato, Two,’ which is topped with Yukon Gold potatoes, sweet potatoes, cream, gruyere cheese, caramelized onions and rosemary. Both sound delicious!

Not only was I impressed with the food, but I also enjoyed the overall dining experience. I loved the mismatched floral plates along with the mix of dark and light wood, warm lighting and pops of greenery throughout the restaurant. Everything worked together to create a warm, welcoming atmosphere with a low-key, 70s vibe. I honestly can’t wait to go back. // www.youngjoni.com
